The internet states the beauty industry to be around $11 billion (Skin care US statistic). What makes it more fascinating is the expected growth of this industry and what people can do to bring out what they really are not.
The object of beauty cream industry (mostly) is woman. Let’s say UG (ugly girl) is the object of this article. UG can be defined by her traits (related to beauty cream industry). UG is Black and beautiful (minus beauty cream), but essentially if you see those ads UG is not very black but dark. The mathematical equation is >>> UG + beauty cream = Beautiful girl.
The mathematical equation is as simple and may be as stupid as it can be.
Dear UG, if the company that you seek help from cares so much about you, it should not provide you with a beauty cream. It should rather provide you with a mirror and a guideline of something else you should look for. So black or dark or brown is a color only and not anything else. You can paint your house white, you can have your car white, your teeth are white but some things cannot change (at least at beauty cream level).
For marketers and sales individuals, the beauty industry is a proof that you do not need great results for your product to sell. Look at the need of consumer (white skin=confidence). The irony is if a beauty cream can sell confidence without results, your product may work too.
